Notes:
Track 1 ‘Shouting herring: The fish was brought from Portavogie (‘you’d get no herrin’ in Kilkeel’). and was actually all sold before the recording began. Willie Burns sells herring on Tuesdays and Fridays at Newcastle. ‘Mackereel a herring alive herr’n a loverly mackereel... Any money any matrimony?...No sooner in your belly till there’s beef on your back... Protestant or Catholic it’s all the same... Rosie dear, where are ye?’
Track 10 ‘The keeper of the game’: Hugh Shields recorded a full text of this sung by Mrs Rose McCartain (aged about 65) on tape 7004. The track was removed to be used in the 1985 cassette Early ballads in Ireland 1968–1985 (Itma Refno 4949-CS, , CID 27527; 4949-CS/WAV, CID 45829). The cassette was re-issued in 2015 by the Góilín club as two CDs (CID 231774, 231775). Hugh Shields had noted in manuscript an almost complete text of the song from Mary Ann Cunningham in 1955.

The title of the DAT(s) was altered from the old title (DCS) to the new title (ITMA-REEL/DAT) using different numbers in order to establish consistency in the titling of DAT copies of reel-to-reel tapes, Niall Hackett, 2010
Imported from Reeldubs July 2013
