Notes:
Digitisation history:
First attempt: From DAT tape - abandoned due to mobile phone noise on the tape;
Second attempt: From reel-to-reel tape - deferred - had only half-track machine in Galway - quarter-track machine required.
Later: third attempt, successful, using new OTARI machine: inputted at 3.75 ips (lowest speed available); altered to correct speed (1.875) where necessary via Pro Tools; short instance of content playing backwards (start of band 4, woman's voice; 3.75 ips) corrected in Pro Tools.
It is highly probable that this tape is a dub from a quarter-track tape, and that the original tape was played back on a half-track machine for the dubbing operation. That means that at times, particularly (only?) on band 4, two tracks (on the original tape) have been dubbed onto one track (on this tape); this means that, on this tape, two tracks are playing simultaneously (one of the tracks backwards and at a different speed from the other). That problem cannot be solved without going back to the original tape from which the dub was made; that original tape (as far as I know) is not available to ITMA at present.
JS, September 2006

NB: Further problem with the DAT transfer discovered on inputting the reel-to-reel tape into Pro Tools: the Pat Mitchell lecture on the tape (for which the sound is extremely poor) was not transferred to DAT.
The lectures on this tape were probably delivered at a Tionol of Na Piobairi Uilleann
Digitised from the original tape, and catalogue updated by Jackie Small; work completed December 2006.
DAT transferred digitally to hard drive and saved as 24 bit BWF using the DATs original sample rate. Files are stored on ITMA server. The WAV titles follow the convention of their relevant DAT copies. Niall Hackett, 2010
Imported from Reeldubs July 2013
Dubbed to DAT August 1998

Tracks A1–17 contain a recording of a lecture by Pat Mitchell on the music of Willie Clancy, with music illustrations from sound recordings; recorded sound from the lecture is extremely poor

Tracks A18–19 and B1 contain a recording of a lecture by an unidentified speaker and Brian Lawson on the structure of the uilleann pipes; recorded sound from the lecture is poor
