Notes:
The Mick O'Connor Reel-to-Reel tape collection was loaned to ITMA by Mick O'Connor, Dublin. The collection originally belonged to John Brennan, Sligo / Dublin; it was largely compiled by John Brennan.
Judging from the evidence on the tape, I would guess that the sequence of events in the making of band 1 of this tape might have been as follows:
1) Recordings were made in the USA (New York and Chicago) and the UK (London) on acetate disc recording equipment. This equipment might have included (in New York) a machine built by Lad O'Beirne.
2) The resulting acetates were recorded onto a tape medium by Bridget Wynne (Martin Wynne's sister), who added a spoken commentary. That tape was sent to the Hunt brothers in Sligo.
3) The Hunt brothers dubbed that tape (possibly in an edited version) onto another tape, adding their own spoken commentary. That tape came into the possession of John Brennan.
4) John Brennan dubbed an edited version of the Hunt tape onto another tape, adding his own spoken commentary on top of those by Bridget Wynne and the Hunt brothers. That is the tape that is digitised here.
J Small, October 2005
The sound quality on most of band 1 is extremely poor; this is remarked on by John Brennan in his commentary.
Band 1 digitised and catalogued from the reel-to-reel tape by Jackie Small, completed October 2005.
Bands 3 and 2 digitised and catalogued from the reel-to-reel tape by Jackie Small, completed November 2005.
Label affixed to original tape: 'MOC RR 10'
Some of the material on bands 3 & 2 has not been digitised, either because it contains poor-quality dubs of commercial recordings or because it contains poor-quality dubs of material that ITMA has already in better quality.
THE INFORMATION THAT FOLLOWS IS A DRAFT FULL LISTING OF THE CONTENTS OF TRACKS 3 AND 2, INCLUDING THE MATERIAL THAT WAS NOT DIGITISED.
Some tracks on Band 3 contain poor-quality dubs of material that ITMA has already in better quality, and of material that is available on commercial recordings; this material has not been digitised.
