Note

Notes:
From a collection of 8 reel-to-reel tapes loaned to ITMA for copying in 2007 by Emer Lee.
Digitised from the reel-to-reel tape and catalogued by Jackie Small, January 2008. Report year 2008
For the digitisation process, the tape was played on an Otari machine at 3 3/4ips (the lowest speed available on the machine). The audio was then adjusted by software means (in Pro Tools) to play at half that speed.
The track formation on this tape is unusual. The audio contents of the tape are on 2 tracks, i.e. tracks 2 and 3 in quarter-track format; however, both tracks play in the opposite direction to how they would in the standard quarter-track configuation (i.e. the configuration on the Otari machine). On the 2 outside tracks (tracks 1 and 4) only faint vestiges of audio are to be heard. Track 2 was transferred by using the half-track head on the Otari; this way there was no need to use software to reverse the tape direction. Track 3 was transferred initially by using the quarter-track head on the Otari; the tape direction was then reversed by means of Pro Tools software. The reason for using this method for track 3 was that a stronger audio signal was available by this method. [However, it then became clear that track 3 contained no material of interest to ITMA, and digitisation of this track was not completed.]
Imported from Reeldubs July 2013

The contents of Band Three consist entirely of poor-quality dubbings from commercial records (LP? EP?) featuring popular songs (international and Irish) and the Gallowglass Ceili Band; these are either of no archival interest or are available to ITMA from commercial recordings, and are therefore not digitised.
