Notes:
This tape is a dubbing made by the archives department at RTE for the index of dance music made by Breandan Breathnach after his retirement (i.e. the Post-Retirement Index = PRI). This tape is referred to as RE 9 in BB's list of RTE recordings processed for PRI. That list is available in BB's reference notebook for PRI.
BB's liaison at RTE for this project was Cathal Goan, then working in RTE archives. The actual work of copying the archive tapes might have been done at Avondale Studios, which was owned by BB's brother.
It is possible that additional information about the contents of this tape is in the large cardboard folder in the BB papers at ITMA that holds information about the RTE tapes processed by BB for his index – to be checked.
The contents of this tape appear in the log for MRU XIII in the BB papers as part of its contents – MRU XIII contains much more material than is on this tape. The MRU series (MRU = Mobile Recording Unit of RTE) in the Breathnach collection consists of reel-to-reel tapes (large size, i.e. 10 1/2", but not only of this size) evidently supplied to BB by RTE during the CICD project (i.e. much earlier than the indexing project). This means that two separate dubbings of the material on this tape (and, probably, of other material) was supplied to BB by RTE.
The information in the log for MRU XIII was used in compiling the information in this catalogue record.
Digitised from the original tape, and catalogue updated by Jackie Small, December 2006.
Imported from Reeldubs July 2013
[Tracks A16–18 play very fast, probably far faster than the speed of the original performance]
