Notes:
References to CICD cards contain information only about cards originating from the musician(s) playing on the track in question.
The name of the performer Pat Farrell, Longford, is often given on CICD cards as Peter Farrell. The version Pat Farrell is adopted because this is the version given in CRE 2
Digitised and catalogued by Jackie Small, completed April 2004.
The title of the DAT(s) was altered from the old title (DCS) to the new title (ITMA-REEL/DAT) using different numbers in order to establish consistency in the titling of DAT copies of reel-to-reel tapes, Niall Hackett, 2010
DAT transferred digitally to hard drive and saved as 24 bit BWF using the DATs original sample rate. Files are stored on ITMA server. The WAV titles follow the convention of their relevant DAT copies.
Imported from Reeldubs July 2013
ARDI: The date of this recording is given variously -- CICD 4978.11 gives September 1966 -- CICD 4380 (from Aggie White) gives August 1966 -- CICD 4772 gives 6 July 1966 -- CRE II gives August 1966 and November 1966 (see DOCU)

Documentation:
Spoken information on tape ; Carton: ; Label on front (in BB's hand): 'CLARE 1 / VIII. 1966 / S Keane taped / 3 3/4 one side / only / Indexed. ALL written' ; On front of carton (in BB's hand): 'CLARE 1 1.' ; Labels on front of carton (containing references to 15' copy tapes in the Folk Music Section, Dept of Irish Folklore, UCD?): '53 33-47 / 54 1-26' ; In BB's hand on back of carton: '11 tunes (all) played / by MR on flute + / whistle rewritten / today as first step / to compiling TDance music / of Miko Russell. 16/2/78 /// other music here / played by Aggie White / & Jim Mulqueeny' ; On side of carton (labels, in BB's hand): 'Clare 1 / MR 1' [where 'MR' is written with letters joined] ; Spool: 'Ennis' ; In CRE II, there are four tunes from Micho Russell acknowledged by BB as from this tape (nos. 225, 255, 269, 281); the source is described as a recording made by Sean O Cathain (Sean Keane of the Chieftains?) in August 1966. [Tune 294 in CRE II might also be from this tape if there is a mistake in the date reference given in CRE II {November 1966}. The CICD card corresponding to this tune (4978.11) probably also has a mistake in the date given (September 1966)] [JS] ; CICD cards written from this tape ; This tape is documented on two kinds of cards in CICD: (a) cards whose creation seems to be not far removed in time from the original recording. On those cards, the tape ID is 'Clare 1', sometimes with 'SK' or 'SK taped' and a date, given variously as July or August or September 1966; (b) cards that seem to be the 'rewritten' versions that BB describes on the tape carton as having been made on 16/2/78. If these are, in fact, the rewritten versions, they are thus fair copies for BB's edition of MR's music, 'The Dance Music of Micho Russell'. The tape is given a new ID, 'MR 1' with the letters M and R joined (BB's 'logo', which he used as a second numbering system for 12 tapes from MR in the CICD project). Occasionally the designation 'SK' is added to the new tape ID on the 'rewritten' cards. Note that the ID 'MR 1' is potentially a source of confusion, because another tape (from BB's active time at CICD and from which there are many cards) has this ID. It is important to make the distinction between MR indications where the letters are joined and where they are not joined: BB had two different ID numbering series for 12 of the MR CICD tapes.[JS]
