History

Alfie was an active member of many aspects of society in Ballymote from his arrival in the town in 1947. These included the GAA and all related activities, community support groups such as Community Care, Meals on Wheels, hall committees and the local branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann of which he was a founding member. He travelled the length and breadth of the country and attended the Fleahh Cheoil na hÉreann in Boyle in 1966 and in Enniscorthy in 1967. He brought musicians to Ballymote to play at regular sessions, these included Fred Finn, Peter Horan, Willie Coleman and Séamus Tansey.
